Google announced today that the Google Assistant is now compatible with over 5,000 different smart home products. That’s a major increase from the 1,500 that was announced back in January at CES. This shows that Google is working hard to make the smart home easier to use, by providing more compatibility with the virtual assistant that is available on everyone’s smartphone. These products include everything that’s smart, from thermostats, to outlets, to light bulbs, to door locks and so much more.
Google also outlines, in this blog post, how you can control your entire home with the Google Assistant. That includes arming the security alarm on your home with your voice, turning on your TV and playing a movie from Google Play Movies & TV with your voice and so much more. Google has plans to add more brands to its compatibility list as well. Which include names like ADT, First Alert, Vivint and many more. Google is also announcing that those that have a Logitech Harmony remote can now just talk directly to the remote without needing to ask Google Assistant to talk to Logitech. Making it easier for you to tell the Assistant to turn on the TV and change the channel to USA or CNBC.
Google Assistant was announced back in 2016 at Google I/O and then debuted on the Google Pixel and Google Home later that year. So the Google Assistant is still fairly new, but the search giant is making sure that its assistant is improving pretty quickly. Not just in the smart home space, but also in other areas, like general queries. Google also recently launched routines for the Google Assistant, so you can wake up and say “Hey Google, good morning” and it’ll start your morning routine. Which can be several different commands. This makes it easier to start your day, or even end your day. You can check out all of the products that work with the Google Assistant on the Google Assistant Explore page which is linked below.
