The Huawei P20 Lite, one of the latest smartphone offerings from Chinese device maker Huawei, will become available in Canada starting May 17. Consumers will only be able to purchase the device from two Canadian carriers – Rogers and Fido. In contrast, interested buyers may purchase the more expensive Huawei P20 and P20 Pro from more Canadian carriers, including Rogers, Telus, Sasktel, Bell, and Virgin Mobile. At this point, there is no available information regarding the pricing of the smartphone in the country, although more information will likely become available within the next few days.
The Huawei P20 Lite was unveiled by the Chinese device maker this March, and is powered by the Kirin 659 chipset, which is comprised of an octa-core ARM Cortex A53 64-bit CPU and the Mali-T830 MP2 GPU. The handset sports a 5.8-inch LTPS display with a resolution of 2280 by 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. A notch located above the screen contains both the front-facing selfie shooter and the earpiece of the P20 Lite. The device includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash storage, which could be expanded using a microSD card with a capacity of up to 256GB. The dual-camera setup of the smartphone is arranged vertically and is located near the upper left corner of its rear plate, entailing one 16-megapixel sensor and another 2-megapixel module, while the front-facing camera is a 16-megapixel affair. In addition, the bottom of the handset contains both a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack, while a fingerprint scanner is located on the rear. A 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support is part of the package as well.
Software-wise, the Huawei P20 Lite ships with Android 8.0 Oreo, with the manufacturer’s proprietary skin, EMUI 8.0, running on top of Google’s operating system. By having Android Oreo pre-installed, the device boasts support for notification channels, improved autofill functionality, and a number of other features such as Google’s Project Treble. The Huawei P20 Lite is already available in a number of countries, including Poland and India. In the latter market, the device is priced at the equivalent of $300.
