Yet another video has now been leaked purporting to show off Xiaomi’s as-yet-unannounced Mi 8 flagship. The video itself, as with that other, is relatively short-lived and it’s not really possible to confirm that the device in question really is the alleged handset. So it’s important to take the news with a grain of salt for the time being. Having said that, there are quite a few interesting takeaways from the 9-second clip. Not least of all, the device in the video is translucent. While not completely clear and by no means a guarantee that the Chinese OEM plans to release a device with that color scheme, that means users can see its internals through the smokey back panel. As exciting as that might sound for some users, there’s actually no way to know for sure if any colors featured in the footage will appear in Xiaomi’s handset at all. If the leak is accurate, the device appears to sport a Snapdragon SoC, with the logo clearly visible beneath the panel.
Looking past that, two cameras also make an appearance on the rear of the smartphone. Those are aligned near the top-left of the handset in a vertical orientation with an LED flash clearly visible between the sensors. The standard “Mi” branding can be seen at the bottom of that rear panel. Another interesting design cue the handset features is a red coloration on its physical power button – seen when the device is rolled to the front. The volume rockers have a stealth-black color theme, by contrast, and those appear to be embedded in a solid black metal frame. A notch is clearly visible on the front of the device, as well, lining up with earlier leaks regarding the display panels.
It bears repeating that his video – which can be seen at Weibo via the source link below – could just as easily be an elaborate fraud. If this and other leaks have been accurate, the handset is expected to arrive with wireless charging, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and a 6.01-inch display. Two screen size variations could also be made available but Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin is expected to overlay Android Oreo in any case. Meanwhile, the device is thought to be powered by the 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC backed up by either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. A launch for the new handset is expected on May 31.
