Lenovo’s next Android flagship coming in the form of the Z5 phablet will be announced early next month, according to the latest teaser posted by the company on Chinese social media platform Weibo. As revealed by the poster seen below, the Lenovo Z5 will launch in the Far Eastern country on Tuesday, June 5, with the smartphone hence presumably being set to go on sale by the end of the month. It’s presently unclear whether the handset is meant to be commercialized outside of Lenovo’s home country, with the tech giant having an inconsistent track record with the availability strategy for its high-end mobile offerings.
According to the firm’s previous statements, the Z5 will benefit from 18 patented technologies and boast a number of industry firsts, including 4TB of storage space, by far the highest flash memory configuration on the market where even the most premium models are presently capped at 512GB, i.e. an eighth of what the upcoming flagship is meant to offer. An almost entirely bezel-less display is also said to be part of the package, with Lenovo supposedly aiming at a screen-to-body ratio in the ballpark of 95-percent. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 is expected to power the device, along with at least 6GB of RAM.
Lenovo recently said the Z5 will offer a high-capacity battery capable of delivering up to 45 days or standby time on a full charge or half an hour of talk time while being almost entirely depleted, though the latter claim is likely indicative of a software trick. Lenovo presently accounts for less than a single percentage point of its domestic smartphone market but the company has no intentions of giving up on the mobile space anytime soon, having recently signaled it’s preparing even more aggressive handset investments going forward. While Lenovo’s business as a whole is running at a profit, its smartphone division continues to bleed money, having lost $142 million over the first three months of 2018 alone.
