The newly announced LG G7 ThinQ will support a number of Google Lens features that are yet to be announced, the South Korean tech giant said Wednesday, shortly after unveiling its latest Android flagship. The functionalities in question haven’t been detailed by the company, with LG only stating that Alphabet’s subsidiary itself will be announcing them in an official capacity at its annual Google I/O developer conference running from next Tuesday through Friday, i.e. May 8 to May 11.
Even without any new additions to its Google Lens toolset, the LG G7 ThinQ already embraced Google’s artificial intelligence solutions in a wholehearted manner, being the world’s first Android smartphone to debut with a dedicated Google Assistant button. As is the case with Samsung’s recent flagships, the extra physical key on the LG G7 ThinQ resides on the left side of the handset and launches its host’s AI helper of choice. The phablet also leverages the current version of Google Lens to its full extent, being able to access all tools provided by the machine vision solution which can identify books, animals, plants, and landmarks, digitize writing from an image, connect to a Wi-Fi network by simply “looking” at the router password sticked to the device, and perform a wide variety of other AI-assisted actions.
The Google Assistant-powered features of the G7 ThinQ are advertised as some of its main selling points, with that state of affairs being the latest result of LG and Google’s strengthening relationship that recently led to the Seoul-based company manufacturing the Pixel 2 XL, launching a Google Assistant speaker, and integrating the AI companion into its TVs in a more in-depth manner. The Google Lens is presently available on tens of millions of Android devices around the world, having been integrated into both Google Photos and the Google Assistant itself, with its creator signaling the mobile solution will be supported for years to come.
