Motorola's G6 For China Launched As Moto 1S

Motorola has recently launched the Moto G6 for China as the Moto 1S, posting on its official Weibo channel on May 17. The phone comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, has the dual camera setup on the back just like the G6 and it’ll cost consumers 1499 yuan to pick up. As one would expect the specifications are on par with the G6 across the board, featuring an 5.7-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display with Full HD+ resolution (2160 x 1080) and 427 ppi. The only real difference between the Moto 1S and the Moto G6 is the user interface, as the Moto 1S features Lenovo‘s ZUI 3.5 which is generally more popular in the Chinese market and can be found on most of Lenovo’s devices internationally.

The software is also based on Android 8.0 Oreo so the software is up to date, though it’s unclear if it’ll end up with the same level of updates as the Moto G6. Judging from the images in Motorola’s infographic the Moto 1S will come in what looks like two or three different colors, including a Gray, Blue, and Gold option. For the most part it seems the phone will come in all the same colors as the Moto G6 that can be picked up in the states, save for the Silver option which doesn’t appear in any of the images and may not be available.

For consumers in China the phone is available through Motorola’s own website as well as various other online retailers like JD.com, Brookstone, Tmall and others. Why Motorola chose to call the phone the Moto 1S instead of the Moto G6 is unclear, as it could have simply launched the phone under the same name while still changing the UI to meet Lenovo’s standard for the Chinese market. That said brands change the names of phones for each market all the time as it’s not an uncommon practice, so it’s not too surprising that Motorola decided to do the same thing here.
