HMD Global is slated to launch a new batch of smartphones in Russia by the end of the month, and we are getting a first unofficial look of what is supposed to be the Nokia 3 (2018) handset. A new set of leaked photos shows off the rear panel design of this year’s Nokia 3 iteration, revealing a new look and most notably the addition of what is believed to be a fingerprint scanner.
The photos were first released on Chinese social media Baidu but were removed soon after they were posted, but the good thing is, folks at Nokia Latest were able to grab the said images. Taking the cue from the phone’s rectangular edges, it would be safe to cast one’s bet on the Nokia 3 instead of the Nokia 5 or Nokia 2, and from the looks of it, HMD Global is sticking to the hard plastic rear shell. The elongated camera module sees a slight change in size as well, making it wider and bigger than the first Nokia 3. The stark addition of the circular button underneath the camera module is seemingly telling fans that the new phone is getting a fingerprint scanner this time around. Aside from the Nokia logo, the back panel also has the Android One label which clearly tells that it is a part of Google’s Android One initiative. The Nokia 3 (2018) will most likely be introduced on May 29 in Russia and is rumored to be sitting beside the 2018 editions of the Nokia 5 and Nokia 2. There are also reports that the phone will have a tall aspect ratio. On Tuesday, the name Nokia 3.1, which has been regarded as the 2018 iteration of Nokia’s entry-level phone, was first spotted in a browser log by notorious leakster and German tech journalist Roland Quandt.
HMD Global certainly plans to release quite a few Nokia smartphones in the coming months. Apart from the Nokia 3 (2018), Nokia 2 (2018), and Nokia 5 (2018), HMD Global might as well introduce the rumored Nokia X5 and Nokia X7 soon with notched displays, to follow the iPhone X-esque Nokia X6.
