It has been almost a year since Nokia had announced its flagship Nokia 8 smartphone and later, HMD Global, the home of Nokia launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco, which adds some more features and upgrades. But, it’s not a perfect flagship phone at all, and its camera wasn’t much appreciated, DxOMark even criticized it quite badly. Not just the camera quality, but Nokia 8 lacks a Pro Camera Mode. However, the newer Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with a newer camera app as well and pack more features. The Pro Mode can be introduced with a software update, but Nokia was quiet and vague till now. However, it seems HMD Global is working on not just an update, but also planning on an imaging framework overhaul to enrich the user experience.
HMD Global talked about the Pro Mode update for the camera but even after quite a few months, the update didn’t really arrive. And it is really absurd to think about a flagship phone, that doesn’t have a Pro Mode in the camera app and also, it’s ironic, as HMD Global has been talking a lot about software updates and promising Android OS upgrades since Nokia returned to the smartphone business.
Finally, the ice is broken and HMD Global has said that the camera update will be provided to older phones soon, which will benefit the Nokia 8 users for sure. However, the current Nokia 8 users will have to wait a bit more for the update to arrive and the company hasn’t made any statements to press, but HMD Global CPO Juho Sarvikas, on Twitter talked a bit about why it took so long for them to bring an update. He pointed out that the company is working on an overhaul the entire imaging framework, which means that the camera update may bring features and utilities to users with an update. The Nokia 8 was last year’s flagship from HMD Global, with solid specs like it rocked a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 4GB or 6GB of RAM, Dual: 13 MP (f/2.0, 1.12µm) camera on the back with PDAF and Laser Auto Focus, Zeiss optics, OIS. Nokia OZO audio was one of the distinct features of the phone, which made it stand out in the crowd in terms of audio recording capabilities. However, due to some downsides, it was not so popular when compared to its direct competitors.
