The Nokia X appeared in a hands-on video, showcasing the smartphone from different angles and once again hinting at a May 16 announcement. The Nokia X, as seen in this hands-on video, looks very much like the unit previously seen in live pictures, complete with a vertically-aligned dual camera on a glossy back panel. The smartphone’s wallpaper also looks familiar and showcases the same May 16 date as before, but one of the more interesting design features that missed the viewfinder was the display notch.
While this bit of details can’t be clearly seen in the hands-on video, all the leaked photos so far indicate that the Nokia X is supposed to feature a display notch somewhat similar to the Essential PH-1, making it HMD Global’s first smartphone to have this particular characteristic. But aside from this peculiarity, the front panel should remain fairly clean having only the Nokia logo on the lower bezel, and with the fingerprint sensor having been placed on the back panel right below the camera module. Overall, the unit presents a modern exterior design with an elongated 18:9 image format, but right now it’s unclear whether the Nokia X will be available only in black as seen in all the leaked material so far, or if the OEM may have prepared other hues for it as well. Either way, rumors suggest that, internally, the Nokia X will adopt mid-range components and depending on model and the region in which it will launch, it could make use of chipset solutions from both MediaTek and Qualcomm.
The Nokia X is also known by the model number TA-1099 and the unit has apparently been approved by the 3C agency in China last month, along with another device bearing the model number TA-1109. Not much is known about the latter but rumors suggest that it could be part of the same series and could be launched under the Nokia X6 moniker featuring a less ambitious 16:9 image format and presumably lower-grade hardware characteristics in favor of a more affordable price tag. Details are scarce but come May 16 and the OEM might officially spill the proverbial beans on both devices.
