OnePlus 6 Flagship Does Well In A Durability Test: Video

The new OnePlus 6 has officially dropped, and the one that made it into the hands of famous YouTuber JerryRigEverything actually made it through his usual battery of scratch, burn, and bend testing relatively unscathed. These videos show phones torture tested until they finally give in all but the bend category, and it took some doing this time around. In the end, the phone had a few minor scratches on the screen and around the bezels, had a small cluster of dead pixels from burning, and survived the bend test with almost no sign that it was ever bent at all.

The Gorilla Glass 5 screen took a level 7 pick to seriously injure, and JerryRigEverything’s trusty razor blade was no match for almost all of the phone’s metal and glass build, save for a small ring of plastic sitting between the screen and the metal frame to provide some insulation in case of a drop. The burn test yielded permanent damage, but only after 20 seconds of exposure to a direct flame from a lighter. It’s safe to say that pixels won’t burn out under normal circumstances, or even fade in direct sun, for the most part. The phone was subjected to the bend test that’s been standard issue since the iPhone 6 fiasco, and it bent slightly out of shape, only to morph back into its normal form mere seconds after JerryRigEverything released his grip.

The OnePlus 6 isn’t just fairly durable, it’s also one of the best-specced flagship devices on the market right now, with price points that severely undercut direct competitors. You’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor inside, along with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Storage comes in at either 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB. The future-proof processor and high-resolution 6.28-inch screen are powered by a sizeable 3,300mAh battery that can be juiced up with OnePlus’ Dash Charge technology via the USB Type-C port found on the bottom of the device. The phone is clearly designed to be both beautiful and durable, and even protected from water just a bit better than its predecessors. Just how well that design will hold up to drops and dips, however, has yet to be revealed.
