Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus will be opening a number of pop-up stores offerings its latest Android flagship later this month, with the company revealing consumers interested in being among the first to get their hands on the OnePlus 6 will be able to do so on May 21 at select locations across the United States, Europe, India, and China. The firm is hence continuing its pop-up tradition that started in the summer of 2015 with the launch of the OnePlus 2, having confirmed San Francisco, New York, London, Berlin, Milan, Paris, and Beijing will be among the cities where such retail locations will be open for a limited time shortly following the mid-May announcement of its upcoming device.
As is usually the case with such retail practices, the company’s pop-up stores will only have a limited number of OnePlus 6 units in stock and are likely to sell out their initial batches shortly after opening. The Android smartphone maker also hired a number of popular tech YouTubers to entice consumers to visit its pop-up locations and hopefully buy the OnePlus 6; you’ll hence be able to meet the people behind Linus Tech Tips and MKBHD channels in New York, as well as TechSmartt, Unbox Therapy, and iJustine in San Francisco. Anyone who manages to purchase the OnePlus 6 at one such location will be eligible to receive a number of exclusive goodies including the OnePlus backpack and a set of first-party protective cases. Members of the company’s product team will be available for meet-and-greets at various pop-up locations, all of which will also be stocking food and drinks, the firm said.
The OnePlus 6 will be officially announced on May 16 and should go on general sale by the end of the month, with the manufacturer once again targeting global availability. No pricing details have yet been disclosed in an official capacity, with recent rumors only pointing to a starting price of approximately $550. The OnePlus 6 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip, up to 8GB of RAM, and a maximum of 256GB of storage space, as well as a display notch and a dual-camera setup, as per the manufacturer’s own disclosures.
