The OPPO A83 (2018) Android mid-ranger is now expanding beyond India some ten days after being launched in the South Asian country, with the smartphone also debuting in Pakistan earlier this week, local media reports. The handset is now hence available in three markets in total, with more possibly being on the way, as suggested by OPPO’s recently employed product practices. The second-generation OPPO A83 is virtually identical to its predecessor save for boasting a beefier memory configuration, i.e. coming with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash memory as opposed to half that storage space and 3GB of RAM. The original variant has now also been discounted to the equivalent of $300, whereas the newly launched model will retail for just under $390.
The same device so far only made its way to OPPO’s home country and India, though the Chinese phone maker’s growing international ambitions may soon bring it to several other markets as well. The device still boasts a 5.7-inch display panel with an HD+ resolution of 1,440 by 720 pixels amounting to a tall 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio. Likewise, MediaTek’s Helio P23 (MT6763T) system-on-chip is still part of the package, as is a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front one. The OPPO A83 (2018) is powered by a 3,180mAh battery and ships with Android 7.1 Nougat. While it’s slated to receive Android 8.0 Oreo in the coming months, support for Google’s Project Treble likely won’t be included with the operating system upgrade as it was presumably one of the reasons why the handset doesn’t run Oreo out of the box.
OPPO is presently the second-largest smartphone vendor in China behind Huawei but has repeatedly signaled it’s preparing for a major international push in the near future so as to continue growing in spite of its domestic market showing signs of saturation. The OPPO A83 (2018) is already available for purchase in India and should hit the store shelves in Pakistan later this month.
