The mainland China version of OPPO’s R15 Pro is now ready to receive the recently announced Android P Beta Preview, according to the company. The new preview was launched on May 8 for developers wanting to check out the software on non-Google devices, which was made possible thanks to Google’s Project Treble. There are actually no fewer than 7 devices that are set to be compatible with this preview, not including Pixel-branded devices. However, OPPO is among the first to provide a bit more information about what that entails. With that said, it’s important to remember that these previews are not necessarily intended for daily use or use by the general public. There will almost certainly be bugs and glitches confronting developers that download and install the update since that is, after all, the whole purpose of these test versions. Bearing that in mind, anybody interested in checking it out will want to read over the installation instructions – included via a button below – prior to getting started.
For clarification, OPPO has stated that this OS will not be a new variation on its own ColorOS Android skin. Development on that is still ongoing and is expected later on, after a stable release of Android P is finalized. Instead, it seems as though installing the Android P Beta will install the stock OS itself. So moving back to OPPO’s firmware will probably require a similar amount of work to this installation. That won’t likely be much of an issue for the developers this Beta is intended for but it is worth pointing out. Meanwhile, the OPPO highlights several new Android P features with this version of Google’s mobile OS. As highlighted at this year’s Google I/O 2018 event, the update will include features from Developer Preview 1 and 2. Notably, that includes screen notch support, multi-camera API, and better indoor positioning via Wi-Fi RTT for precision down to 1-2 meters. It will also include Google’s newly improved security, pill icon gesture navigation, a better set of notification controls, and the new Markup screenshot editor.
Anybody who doesn’t have experience with developer software and firmware implementations, as mentioned above, will probably want to skip this Android P Beta and wait for the official release.
