Samsung robot vacuums and ovens will be all set for Bixby support when the company plans to roll out the feature to its appliances in those two categories later in 2018, and if everything for Samsung goes according to plan it will have Bixby in all the home appliances that it offers by 2020 meaning consumers would have a full range of home appliance options from the brand that come with smart features through the digital assistant.
Samsung hasn’t announced what the Bixby features would be able to do for its ovens or robot vacuums, but there are obvious interactions that will likely be available to consumers who own them, like the ability to start, pause, and stop cleaning cycles through Samsung’s POWERbot vacuums, or pre-heat the oven to a certain temperature to prepare for cooking a meal. Essentially, anything that can be done with an oven or a robot vacuum has the potential to gain Bixby interaction, and although Samsung hasn’t shared much detail on what Bixby will be able to control on these products just yet those details will probably surface once Samsung officially launches the feature for them.
Getting Bixby into all of its home appliances in the next year and a half might seem like an overly ambitious achievement, but Samsung already has a head start on its goal as it already offers Bixby in many of its other home products. Samsung washers and dryers, Samsung refrigerators, Samsung TVs, and Samsung air conditioners all have Bixby, though it is worth noting that this only applies to recent products in these categories that have been released within the last year or two. All of this will come together cohesively with Samsung’s Bixby-enabled smartphones as a link to those appliances. Bixby is already available in the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy Note 8, and the company’s most recent flagships the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.
