Snap Testing Ability To Export Spectacles Content In 16:9 Format

Snap, Snapchat’s parent company, is reportedly testing new formats for exporting content from Spectacles. Which includes being able to export it with black bars around the content and in 16:9 aspect ratio. This is going to make a lot of sense, seeing as the cameras in Spectacles are actually circular. So that exporting the content is a bit odd, since you’ll be seeing the content in a circle instead of a rectangle. But the team at Snap is looking to change that.

This new format, should Snap roll it out to all Spectacles users, will be better for using on other platforms like YouTube and even Instagram Stories. The reason for the cameras on the Spectacles being circular is so that you can move your phone around and see what the person is seeing, without getting black bars in the picture. It makes sense for viewing on Snapchat, but when users want to bring it over to other platforms like YouTube and share with those that aren’t on Snapchat, it makes it a bit of an odd way to view video. Snapchat is looking to change that, and this is likely because the company has lost a good amount of users since launching its redesign earlier this year. So Snapchat is likely looking for ways to keep users using its service, by allowing them to take their content elsewhere, should they choose to do so.

Snap’s Spectacles are a pair of glasses with a camera on either side. They are actually made to look like sunglasses and blend in, though the cameras are pretty evident there. This is to allow users to record what they see and share it on Snapchat. This is great for those times that you want to make your followers feel like they are really there with you. As you’ll be able to go ahead and share it straight from your point-of-view onto Snapchat. It’s a pretty good concept, but it’s not complete, yet. Many users have not jumped on-board with Spectacles yet, but with the second-generation, Snap is hoping that changes.
