Sony has announced that its latest flagship smartphone offering, the Sony Xperia XZ2, will become available in Canada starting May 29th. The Japanese smartphone manufacturer stated that the device will be sold by Canadian carriers Bell and Freedom Mobile, and interested consumers may buy the device outright for CAD 1,099, which translates to around $854 at the current exchange rate. The tech firm also mentioned in its announcement that only the Liquid Black color variant of the device will be available in the North American country.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 was launched by the smartphone manufacturer last February alongside the smaller Xperia XZ2 Compact. The Xperia XZ2 is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset from the semiconductor firm Qualcomm. This SoC is comprised of an octa-core Kryo 385 CPU and the Adreno 630 GPU. The smartphone sports a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 2160 by 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The device’s screen supports HDR, and the handset features the tech firm’s proprietary Advanced X-Reality Engine, which automatically upconverts standard dynamic range (SDR) content to HDR. The device also includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage, which could be expanded using a microSD card with a capacity of up to 400GB. The rear camera of the device is equipped with a 19-megapixel Motion Eye sensor, which has an aperture size of f/2.0. This sensor is capable of recording slow motion video at a frame rate of 960fps, and it can also record 4K HDR video. Meanwhile, the front-facing camera of the smartphone has a 5-megapixel snapper with an aperture size of f/2.2. To keep its lights on, the handset includes a 3,180mAh battery, and it supports fast wireless charging. The device also comes with IP68 water and dust resistance certification, which means that the smartphone can survive being submerged underwater for a short period of time.
The handset ships with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed, and it comes with additional software features, which include the 3D Creator app. This app allows users to create a 3D rendering of themselves by simply taking a selfie. The Sony Xperia XZ2 is already available in a number of European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
