HTC officially unveiled its U12 Plus this week and with it comes some new features and design changes, along with some familiar traits that HTC carried over from the U11 Plus and the Pixel 2 series devices. For instance, the U12 Plus has Edge Sense 2, an evolution of the original Edge Sense but it very much works the same way. The difference is that it now does more for the user so it’s possible to activate more things, which does add a bit of convenience. The device also has a translucent color option just like the U11 Plus, though HTC did change things up by switching the color from Black to Blue.
As far as improvements go the HTC U12 Plus comes with a dual camera system, and while this is certainly not a first for HTC devices, the U11 Plus had one camera on the back so HTC is stepping things up here and following the direction that most other smartphone vendors are already moving. On the reverse side of things one trend that HTC is not following is the notch. For those that hate the notch on the display that can be found in devices like the OnePlus 6, the ZenFone 5, and others, HTC has sidestepped this design feature. The bezels are also still pretty slim so you do get quite a bit of screen real estate to work with, which is the reason for the notch in most cases.
Most of the specs are pretty on par with other top-end devices, so consumers shouldn’t expect anything different when it comes to performance and a lot of the features or capabilities. The U12 Plus comes powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor and has a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, so the device will likely perform extremely well and charge up quick. There’s also a lot of storage available with HTC offering a 64GB model or a 128GB model, though these will come at a cost of either $799 or $849, so the device won’t be cheap. Are you planning to pick one up?
