It seems like Xiaomi is looking to establish a separate camera division in order to boost camera quality of its smartphones, at least according to an internal email that has just surfaced. Someone took a screenshot of the e-mail, and that screenshot is pictured down below, though do keep in mind that this email is in Chinese. In any case, this e-mail was, allegedly, sent by Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, and it basically says that the goal of this new camera department will be to boost camera quality in the company’s smartphones.
In the email, Lei Jun notes that smartphone cameras have become one of the key smartphone components to today’s consumers, and by launching this new division, the company is looking to up the ante when it comes to its smartphone camera experience. Now, this does not mean that Xiaomi’s smartphones have bad cameras at the moment, quite the contrary, as the Mi MIX 2S actually has quite a capable shooter, which you’ll find out once you read our full review of the device, that is scheduled to arrive shortly. Even DxOMark praises Mi MIX 2S’ camera, if that’s something you’re interested in, but camera benchmarks aside, the device does offer a considerable improvement over its predecessor, the Mi MIX 2S. It remains to be seen if the Mi 7 will improve upon the Mi MIX 2S’ camera even further, and it will be interesting to see if the leaked email is legit. If there’s any truth to the leaked info, this new camera division will be opened shortly.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 is the company’s upcoming smartphone, and if there’s any truth to latest rumors, the Mi 7 will be announced before the end of this month along with the company’s 8th anniversary smartphone, and the Mi Band 3 fitness tracker. The Xiaomi Mi 7 will probably be made out of metal and glass, it will sport a display notch, and it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC. The device will be smaller than the Mi MIX 2S, and it is expected to offer wireless charging, in addition to some sort of IP rating for water and dust resistance.
