Amazon has unveiled the new Show Mode feature and the new Show Mode dock for its Fire Tablets to help highlight the things you can ask Alexa to do for you, whether that’s check the weather conditions or catch up on important news details. Show Mode will only be available on the most recent Fire HD 8 and the most recent Fire HD 10 tablets, though it’s highly likely that it’ll be introduced with any new tablet that Amazon launches in the future as well if the feature is well-received by consumers. The idea behind Show Mode is to give users a visual aspect of their Alexa interactions with a full screen view, making it easy to glance at the tablet from near or far and still be able to see what’s on screen.
Show Mode is not quite available yet but it will be rolled out to users on July 2, which is just a few days away. It’ll be coming in an update to the compatible Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets so users of those devices won’t have to do anything besides wait for the feature to show up. Officially, Show Mode will allow users to see things like the news, weather details, TV shows, and make video calls. There are other functions as well but Amazon doesn’t mention them all. It does however state that if you ask Alexa to play music when the tablet is in Show Mode that the lyrics for the song will be displayed on screen, so if you fancy being able to see song lyrics so you can sing along with the track then this will be a feature you may love.
To compliment this new feature, the Show Mode Charging Dock will automatically dump the tablet into Show Mode when it’s placed into the dock, and of course as the name suggests it’ll charge the tablet too. It also comes with an adjustable kickstand that’s built into the back of the dock so you what you’re viewing can be seen at the best angle for your needs. Both docks are already available for pre-order and will be officially released on July 12, with the HD 8 dock costing $39.99 with a special introductory price of $34.99, while the HD 10 dock will cost $$54.99 with a special introductory price of $49.99.
