Samsung and Disney’s ongoing content partnership has spurred the release of two further Disney AR Emojis for Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus flagships. Specifically, that means users can now download and use Disney’s Daisy Duck and Goofy avatars just as they would any other AR Emoji on the devices. That very nearly brings together the entire group of classic characters, joining the already available Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck. Those, in turn, join previous additions from across the Disney and Pixar universes, including the recently added main cast from The Incredibles, Frozen, and a few Star Wars AR Emoji. However, the companies aren’t quite done yet and plan to release even more over the next few months. So Samsung Galaxy S9 users shouldn’t be too concerned if their favorite Disney characters haven’t quite been released just yet.
Although these Emoji are a licensed property and can’t quite be customized to the same degree as a personal AR Emoji, they do come with other features commonly expected of Samsung’s AR Emoji platform. First, they can be shared across any platform, even if the receiving user doesn’t have a Samsung device. They’re also highly interactive, with dozens of facial expressions and character-specific actions that bring them to life in AR. As with other AR Emoji available for the handsets, getting them downloaded and using them is very straightforward. Users simply need to navigate to the Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus camera and switch over to AR Emoji mode. From there, a plus icon in the right-hand corner will be available for easy access to the company’s dedicated Galaxy Apps Store. Since these are new characters on the list, they should be among the first seen on arrival at the storefront.
It goes without saying that these aren’t going to change the core functionality of AR Emoji for those who prefer to create something a little more similar to themselves. Those will still be highly-customizable and built up using deep-learning and facial recognition with more than 100 facial features available to choose from. This update and future updates, as of this writing, will primarily center around releasing new AR Emoji licensed from partner companies.
