Samsung’s flagship smartphones have been shipping with curved displays for a couple of years now, and as part of that Samsung included the ‘Edge Screen’ feature on its flagship devices… well, if you like that feature, you’re in luck, as you can use it on any phone now, well, kind of. An app called ‘Edge Screen’, or by its full name ‘Edge Screen: Sidebar Launcher & Edge Music Player’ is available in the Google Play Store, and it actually offers similar functionality to Samsung’s Edge Screen feature.
This application is free in the Play Store, and much like the Edge Screen feature on Samsung’s phones, it lets you swipe from the edges of your display in order to access ‘Edge panels’. It’s worth noting that Samsung’s ‘Edge Screen’ feature does not exactly require phones to sport curved displays, as you can swipe from the edge of any display the way you would on the Galaxy S8, S9, and so on. In any case, the ‘Edge Screen’ app has a number of ‘Edge panels’ available at the moment, including Apps Edge, People edge, Quick Tool edge, Softkey edge, Calendar edge, Screenshot edge, and File explorer edge. Quick Tool edge, for example, lets you control some quick settings, such as turning on and off your WiFi, Bluetooth, airplane mode, and so on. Softkey edge, on the other hand, let you replace the phone’s hard keys with a soft key panel, while the Screenshot edge allows you to record your screen, basically.
Now, on top of all these Edge panels, the developer is also planning to introduce some additional ones, such as Weather edge, Google Drive Edge, Dropbox edge, and Flashlight edge. It is still unknown when all of those new Edge panels will be coming through, but it seems like they may reach the app soon enough. In order to call upon Edge panels in the Edge Screen app, you’ll need to swipe from left or right, while you close Edge panels by tapping anywhere outside of it. There are a number of options offered in settings of this app, so you’ll be able to tweak it quite a bit.
