The Moto Z3 looks very, VERY familiar
Here’s an official render of the upcoming Moto Z3 smartphone from Motorola and Lenovo. If it looks very familiar, then that is to be expected as AndroidHeadlines previously shared the first proper look at the Moto Z3 Play via another official render. Needless to say, the Moto Z3 shown in this image looks a lot like the Moto Z3 Play. In fact, it does not look a lot like the Moto Z3 Play, it looks exactly the same as the Moto Z3 Play. Based on this image, it’s identical.
The image above has been shared by a reliable source who has assured AndroidHeadlines this is indeed the Moto Z3, along with providing the confirmation the two upcoming Moto phones look even more alike than previous Moto Z variants have before. For what it’s worth, there is a slight difference between this official render and the previous Moto Z3 Play one – the wallpaper. It’s also worth pointing out we say ‘two upcoming Moto phones’ intentionally, as the same source has confirmed Motorola does not intend to release a Force version of the Moto Z3 this year. Therefore, unlike last year when the Moto Z2 came in Force and Play versions, the Moto Z3 will be available in standard and Play variants. If assuming the same sort of difference will be in effect this year as it was last year, then it could be argued that in spite of the identical look, the Moto Z3 might be a little slimmer than the Z3 Play. Might. What is clear though, is that the previous suggestions of the Moto Z3 being a little more premium in design compared to the Z3 Play (curvier glass, etc), are possibly wrong. Based on the information received, there seems to be no obvious differences between the bodies of the two phones.
Ignoring the Moto Z3 Play for a moment and this render does confirm the Moto Z3 will see a number of changes compared to previous Z-branded phones. First off, the display is far more prominent, with more of an edge-to-edge design and far less of a chin. Likewise, a dual rear camera setup will be in effect and centrally positioned just above the Moto logo. There is no home button located on the front and seemingly no fingerprint sensor on the back. Although there does seem to be an additional module on the side (under the volume controls) which looks likely to house the fingerprint sensor. As for the specs, while this remains an unknown element, there have been numerous leaks of late relating to the specs of the Moto Z3 Play. Considering these phones are unlikely to differ in design, it would stand to reason that if the Moto Z3 is going to arrive as a more premium option — as expectations suggest it is — then the rumored Moto Z3 Play specs are a good jumping-off point for what to expect with the Moto Z3.
On that note, the Moto Z3 Play is expected to feature 4GB RAM, up to 64GB of storage, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. As well as 12-megapixel and 8-megapixel rear cameras, along with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. This is all in addition to microSD card support, a 3,000 mAh capacity battery, and no headphone jack. In terms of availability, there is no new information on this, although Motorola does have an event planned for June 6 where the Moto Z3 Play is expected to be announced. It could be the case both versions of the phone are introduced at the same event, although this is not what happened last year, with Motorola opting to launch the Moto Z2 Force after the Moto Z2 Play. So, there are no guarantees the June 6 event will see both phones announced. On a final note, like the Moto Z3 Play, it seems the standard Moto Z3 will not feature a display notch. In contrast to the first new Motorola-branded phone that is coming – the Motorola One Power.
