Facebook has announced the launch of a dedicated section on both its mobile and desktop versions where you will be able to find all of the status updates and photos you have shared with friends and family, your major life events, and the friends you have made at a certain point in history. Called Memories, the dedicated space provides a streamlined experience for reminiscing the moments you have shared on Facebook, according to Oren Hod, product manager at the social networking giant.
The Memories page also contains a number of subsections including the “Recaps of Memories” which offer a review of your seasonal or monthly memories presented in the form of a message or a short video. There’s also a special spot for “Memories You May Have Missed,” and as the name suggests the subsection features the posts you did not see from the previous week if you’re not in the habit of regularly checking your memories. Also, all of the posts and major life events that occurred at specific dates in the past will remain available for you to see in a familiar subsection called “On This Day,” where the content will pop up on the same day that they took place in the past. Finally, Facebook will show you a list of friends you have made on a particular date in recent times in the form of a video or collage shown in the “Friends Made On This Day” subsection. Keep in mind that you still have control over what type of content should appear in the Memories section so that you can choose not to see specific posts you have made in the past.
The Memories section complements Facebook’s existing On This Day section which also shows you a recap of a specific happening in the past. That special section was launched in 2015 as a way to notify you in your feeds with photos and old memories from the past. It’s worth noting that your memories are still accessible through the Memories bookmark that can be found on the left of your News Feed on desktops, in the “more” tab at the bottom right of your Facebook mobile app, through notifications, via messages shown in your News Feed, or by visiting the designated URL for the Memories section.
