Xiaomi had introduced MIUI 10 along with the Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and Mi 8 SE smartphones on May 31, but that was the Chinese version of MIUI 10, a global variant will be announced on June 7, Xiaomi just confirmed. Global variant of MIUI 10 will be quite similar to the Chinese one, but it will not include China-specific features or applications. So, all in all, all the main features that the company announced for MIUI 10 will be available in the global ROM, and the UI will look the same as well.
Xiaomi’s all-new Mi 8 handsets do not ship with MIUI 10 out of the box, all three of those phones have MIUI 9.5 pre-installed, but MIUI 10 will land in the near future. Xiaomi has announced that a global MIUI 10 variant will be announced on June 7 via Twitter, and the company’s tweet has been embedded down below. In comparison to MIUI 9, MIUI 10 looks more like stock Android, Android P, to be exact. The UI seems more refined in general, and it’s more rounded, as is Android P’s UI. So, for example, those quick toggles in the notification shade are now round, and other elements that you will find there, including notification cards, for example. With MIUI 10, Xiaomi also brought the all-new recent apps layout, as the company implemented two vertical columns of apps instead of one horizontal one. That addition arguably makes the recent apps’ layout more useful, as it allows you to switch between apps faster.
Full screen gestures come baked into MIUI 10 as well, some Xiaomi-branded phones did get full screen gestures in MIUI 9.X, but it seems like all phones which get MIUI 10 will get them with that update, even though Xiaomi did not specifically confirm that, so we’ll have to wait for the global launch event in order to be sure. Some camera improvements have been added in MIUI 10 as well, as bokeh effect will arrive to phones with single cameras as well, while Xiaomi had also mentioned AI a number of times during its press conference. With help from AI, MIUI will be able to adapt to you as a user, in order to preload applications based on your usage and thanks to that make the whole experience of using MIUI faster than ever, at least Xiaomi claims that will be the case. Those are only some of the new features and additions Xiaomi added, we’ll find out much more on June 7.
