Goodreads, an app designed to help you keep track of the literary pursuits of yourself and your friends, has received an extreme redesign that not only gives the app a brand new, much easier to use UI, but also adds in a number of fresh features. For starters, there is now an entirely new tab in the main menu, called Explore, where you can browse around without having to search for a specific book. You can also subscribe to Deals to have the Goodreads team automatically send you customized deals, as well as any sales and other deals that happen to crop up on books in your wishlist.
The Explore tab pretty much serves as the home base of the new UI design, and rightly so. From here, you can check out trending books, look over genre lists, and even peruse lists made by other readers just like you. If you don’t feel like doing the work to discover new books yourself, you can always head over to the Recommendations tab, where you’ll find new reads based on what you already have and what’s in your wishlist. Another tab is dedicated to scanning books into your collection or wishlist, no matter where you are. You can also pop into the My Books tab to check out your personal collection. There’s also a Reading Challenge tab, which is exactly what it sounds like, and a Best Books of 2017 tab, which is also exactly what it sounds like. You can also edit your personal profile, view an Updates feed for your friends, and join groups.
Goodreads has been around for some time, and this update has brought many of its core functions to bear alongside the new features. The app has always been about keeping track of your personal reading list and seeing what your friends are reading, and now it does those things better than ever. The Explore tab is one of the bigger new features, and it expands the purpose and function of the app exponentially, making the app useful to not only dedicated readers with large collections, but also to aspiring readers who want to see what might appeal to them.
