Google Search is now going to directly surface college details like cost and admissions making the whole process easier than ever for anyone who is starting to begin looking for a university to attend. Google’s aim here is to simplify the entire process, highlighting that people often find the act of searching for colleges time consuming and daunting thanks to the lack of details that can pop up without having to dig through a bunch of websites and sign up for communication with the school itself.
Google doesn’t specifically mention exactly how many colleges will be included in this new Search capability but it does state that details will surface when people search for a four-year university, suggesting that all of this new information it’s trying to put at the fingertips of users will only show up for four-year schools. That said, those looking for a four-year school will be able to see a fairly detailed view of the most important information. Everything will be tabbed out in Search the same way you’d find details about movies or actors, starting with an Overview tab that contains bits and pieces of everything at a glance, then moving on to other tabs that have more of a focused approach.
Users will see tabs for Admissions, Cost, Majors, Outcomes, Students, Rankings, and more, all of which have their own sub-tabs for even more pinpointed looks at specifics, such as the gender percentages, what costs will end up being after four, six, or eight years, and how many students attend either full-time or part-time. There’s even a breakdown of the percentage of students attending which fit into certain household income brackets, which might be very useful in helping you decide which school you may want to go to yourself. Though looking for colleges can be a longer process, being able to sift through information on Search, which is to say the least, comprehensive, should make the whole thing a little faster and less of an intimidating experience.
