Huawei will reportedly offer Windows 10 for some of its Android smartphones in China, though not as a replacement for the Android operating system. Rather it’ll be available to users of some of Huawei’s Android phones as a cloud-based option so Android will still be the primary OS for the device and users will be allowed to access the full functionality of Windows 10 while on the go without needing a separate product, though Huawei does make Windows 10-based devices. As it stands Huawei will only be offering this on five different devices, though there’s no confirmation that it won’t be offering it on other devices at some point in the future.
The devices that are getting support for the cloud-based Windows 10 service will be the MediaPad M5 tablet, as well as the P20 and P20 Pro, the Mate 10, and the Mate RS. All of these are relatively new devices that were launched within the last year, so it makes sense why Huawei would have chosen them as they should all have the necessary components to run a cloud version of Windows 10.
Since this will be a cloud-based service running on an Android device users will be able to essentially interface with both operating systems. This is because Huawei designed the service so that it could directly access the files stored on the Android system memory, meaning images and other media, documents, and more will be accessible while in the Windows 10 state and users can edit things if they need. This should be fairly useful if there is a certain tool that is available on Windows but not on Android. Though this is Windows 10 in full, it’s still Windows 10 on a smaller screen that is generally meant for a mobile operating system. That said it is possible to mirror that interface onto an external monitor using a USB Type-C cable. Everything will come together through the use of an Android app that installs on the device, but at the moment Huawei hasn’t given any information out about the release.
