Huawei on Wednesday announced the second iteration of its NEXT-IMAGE Awards in collaboration with the International Center of Photography, having described the move as the next step in its efforts to promote mobile photography and visual culture as a whole. Anyone interested in competing is now invited to send their applications to the company by referring to the banner below, with the firm disclosing the winners will be announced in late September.
The best submissions will be judged by an expert panel, with the winners being promised to have their work featured as part of Huawei’s mobile gallery pre-installed on every contemporary handset from the original equipment manufacturer. The first iteration of the awards saw over 157,000 submissions from more than 90 countries being sent to Huawei in 2017, 500 of which ended up being chosen as finalists. ICP also collaborated with the Shenzhen-based firm on the premier edition of the competition. This year, the two partners are accepting submissions in half a dozen categories: “Timeline,” “Good Night,” “Story Board,” “Hello, Life!,” “Faces,” and “Check-In.” Huawei and ICP’s expert panel will be judging all finalists, with the grand prize being $20,000 in cash, one P20 Pro, and the firm’s latest MateBook X Pro laptop. Every category will also have its own winner, with 50 runner-up prizes being planned as well.
The Chinese OEM is planning to hold a series of workshops and other events to generate additional momentum for the NEXT-IMAGE Awards in the coming weeks, having suggested that more such initiatives will debut in the future. The P20 Pro is presently widely rated as the best mobile camera ever created, featuring an unprecedented triple-lens setup on its back panel. Huawei is expected to once again attempt to push the boundaries of smartphone imaging capabilities this fall when the Mate 20 lineup of Android flagships is likely to be made official.
