A new listing with the standards organization Bluetooth SIG has now been spotted which appears to be pointing directly to a follow-up to 2016’s Lenovo Yoga Book. More specifically, bearing a model description of “YogaBook2 Pro AES 2.0 Pen” and officially listed on May 15, the listing seems to describe an electronic pen. Despite the first portion of that suggesting the Beijing-based company has an updated version of the device in the works, there aren’t many details that can be gleaned from the document. In fact, the only firm takeaway from the listing is that the pen will connect to the device via Bluetooth 4.2 protocol.
The product it is replacing, on the other hand, was a laptop-like tablet which was purchasable running either Windows or Android OS, starting back in 2016. It’s not unreasonable to suggest that the new tablet will likely follow that same path and be offered with either OS. However, unlike many other tablets trying to fill the niche, the Yoga Book didn’t ship with a full keyboard. Instead, it was bundled with a flat slate which functioned as a touchpad. Aside from the included fully digital keyboard with haptic feedback for key “presses,” it also acted as a pressure-sensitive drawing surface. Paper can be placed on the surface to get a more authentic feel, with real ink, or the Yoga Book can be used without real paper. With a sensitivity of 2,048 pressure points, digitally captured strokes were on par with many professional graphics tablets. That’s all made possible by the Lenovo Real Pen and a new version of that seems to be what this Bluetooth SIG listing points to.
Meanwhile, the original Yoga Book was so well-made that it is still easily recommendable in 2018. It features a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. Driving either Android or Windows is Intel’s Atom X5-8550 processor, backed up by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Power is delivered by an 8,500mAh battery. It’s not unreasonable to assume that, alongside an improved Real Pen, Lenovo would be improving on those specifications with its Yoga Book 2. Bearing that in mind, there’s no way to know for sure if or when that will be coming. So, for now, it’s probably a good idea to take any speculation about the new Lenovo Yoga Book with a grain of salt.
