The mysterious Nokia smartphone known only by the model number TA-1109 has once again popped up in the spotlight after securing its Bluetooth certification late last week. Readers and Nokia fans might know that the TA-1109 model number was previously leaked alongside the model number TA-1099, the latter of which has become officially known as the Nokia X6. However, the whereabouts of the TA-1109 are still unknown and only time will tell whether the device will be released as the recently-leaked Nokia 5.1 Plus or a different model altogether. Either way, the Bluetooth certificate reveals that the device is powered by a chipset supplied by MediaTek similar to the Nokia 5.1, which lends a bit more credibility to the possibility that this may be the Nokia 5.1 Plus.
Not many other hardware details have been revealed by the Bluetooth certificate except for the inclusion of 4G and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. Worth noting is that the certificate was originally listed on June 15, signaling that HMD Global might be gearing up for the smartphone’s release. Now, because this is a MediaTek-powered smartphone, it could be none other than the Nokia 5.1 Plus, however there’s no direct evidence to support this and it’s worth reminding that the Nokia 5.1 Plus could just as well be identified by the model number TA-1057 or TA-1063, both of which have been approved by the U.S. FCC earlier this month.
Assuming that the TA-1109 will indeed be directly related to the Nokia 5.1 then it’s only logical to assume that it will improve upon certain features of the aforementioned model, as is generally the case with variants carrying the ‘Plus’ label. This could mean that the device might have a higher-resolution display and/or a more powerful MediaTek chipset surpassing the Helio P18. Additional RAM and on-board storage are also valid options, and finally judging by a recent series of leaked renders, the so-called Nokia 5.1 Plus / TA-1109 could also feature a display notch akin to the Nokia X6, bridging the design gap between the more conventional Nokia x.1 series and the notched X6 itself. With various approvals gathered over the course of the past few months, it looks like the TA-1109 might not be too far from an official unveiling.
