Leading fleet management solutions company Zonar has now announced the addition of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab E to its driver-focused portfolio. For those that may not be aware, Zonar is a long-time provider of mobile solutions for the management of commercial fleets. The Galaxy Tab E is being added as a tablet solution for drivers in order to give them a secure way to track, record, and report on vehicle health and their “hours of service.” Those aspects are important as a part of Zonar’s continued compliance with industry-wide regulations including Electronic Logging Device requirements. The regulations are intended to ensure that drivers are not overworked and safe, while also ensuring maximum productivity. In short, the addition of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab E extends the lineup of devices for drivers to work from utilizing Zonar’s fleet management solutions.
Zonar Chief Product Officer Larry Jordan says that the addition of Samsung’s tablet allows drivers a customizable platform that’s also secure enough to run Zonar’s applications with the “security, versatility, and support” required to meet customer needs. Moreover, it’s well suited to the fast-pace and rapidly changing technology demands of modern supply chains. The company will be offering the tablet pre-configured with whatever applications and software its business customers need – as well as its Zonar Mobile Shield security solution and Ground Traffic Control violation prevention solution. The security will be further augmented by a custom-built solution which combines Zonar’s own security with Samsung Knox. Enterprise device management will be included as part of the package.
The company has not provided details as to what the specifications for this particular tablet are. So it’s likely that this is similar to the consumer ready carrier variant launched in 2017 or to the latest version featured on Samsung’s site. The latter of those is an Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) tablet with an 8-inch HD at a display resolution of 1280 x 800. That’s embedded over a quad-core Exynos 3475 SoC clocked at 1.3GHz backed up by 1.5GB of RAM and 32GB of storage expandable by an extra 256GB via a micro SD card slot. There’s a 5-megapixel primary camera on the back panel and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and the entire package is powered by a 5,000mAh-capacity battery. That’s not necessarily the most high-end specs list for a tablet but should be plenty to run enterprise applications in a relatively closed off app environment.
