A well-known tipster, Evan Blass, has just shared some interesting info via his Twitter page, he says that Sony Mobile is getting ready to leave the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa by October. The company is currently active in all of those markets, as some of its devices are officially available there, but it seems like that won’t be the case much longer, as Mr. Blass says that Sony Mobile will “shut down its operations and offices” in all of those markets by October.
This is not an official confirmation or anything of the sort, but Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) is quite a reliable source for such info, so chances are it’s true. It’s not exactly a secret that Sony Mobile is one of Sony’s most troublesome businesses, as the company just doesn’t sell as many smartphones as they’d like. It seems like Sony Mobile is looking to focus on some other markets with this move, quite probably Europe, Asia, and the US, but we’re only guessing at this point. The company did not exactly release a ton of phones this year, as it’s trying to focus on the few that it thinks will sell well, like the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact, which are the company’s new flagship smartphones. Both of those phones were introduced back in February, and have been made available in certain markets, while the two phones are almost equally as powerful, even though they look considerably different, and their specs do differ a bit.
Both phones are fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, and both ship with the same main camera setup. The Xperia XZ2 is larger, and it is made out of metal and glass, while the Xperia XZ2 Compact is quite probably the most powerful (Android) compact smartphone out there, and it’s made out of metal and polycarbonate. Sony is hoping that these two handsets will sell noticeably better than its previous offerings, as these two phones are considerably different in terms of the design compared to pretty much everything else Sony Mobile released in the last couple of years.
