Supercell, the developer behind smash hit Clash of Clans, has brought its team-based fighting game Brawl Stars to Android in a soft launch. For the time being, players in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Macau, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore, and Sweden will be able to get their hands on the game via the Play Store. Others will have to wait; even snagging the APK file from a third-party site won’t do you any good in this case, since only users in eligible countries can log into the game’s servers, and there are measures in place to detect unofficial installations. The game blocks root users as well, which means that trying to get around the protections with something like Magisk or Lucky Patcher is unlikely to work out. There’s currently no word on a time frame for a wider release.
As to the game itself, you and some teammates pick some heroes and use their unique abilities to knock around the other team in a variety of arenas. Each hero has their own individual play style, and building strong teams that compliment one another’s abilities is just as crucial as skillful play. There is a progression system that lets you upgrade your heroes, as well. The action unfolds across a variety of stages that feature their own hazards, and there are different events every day to spice things up. There’s a battle royale mode, a gem collecting mode, a bounty mode, a MOBA-like heist mode, and even a violent take on football.
This game is in an entirely separate world from Supercell’s previous efforts, for the most part, and can essentially be considered Supercell’s take on the MOBA genre that swept the mobile and PC gaming worlds a couple years back. The big draw of this game is the mayhem and mischief that unfolds while fighting, as well as the fact that there’s a wide enough variety of content that there will almost always be something fresh to do. The game has been out on iOS for a while, and Android users can expect all of the same content and polish when the Play Store version finally rolls out to their country.
