Pictures of a new UMIDIGI Z2 Pro model have now surfaced online. According to the information, this is designed to be a more luxury version and largely thanks to the inclusion of a ceramic body. A process which inevitably is more involved compared to smartphones which boast more of a metal or glass back. Of course, the benefit of ceramic is how it leads to a more durable device in general, as ceramic is a material that scores much higher on the Mohs scale compared to glass and metal. Placing it behind the likes of sapphire and diamond.
While there are already ceramic smartphones available to buy, UMIDIGI states its one is different due to the use of microcrystal zirconium oxide ceramic. In addition, the company points out that the use of this type of ceramic results in a more detailed manufacturing process that involves no less than sixteen individual processes consisting of tape casting, punch forming, dumping and sintering, vacuum black, setting, CNC machining, front polish, edge polish, laser drilling, CNC finish machining, cleaning, checking, laser etching, plating fingerprint-proof membrane, second checking, packing and shipment. All of which UMIDIGI estimates results in a 75-percent higher manufacturing cost compared to its usual phones.
Besides the ceramic body, UMIDIGI has also confirmed this version of the UMIDIGI Z2 Pro will also boast an improved camera setup resulting in, among other things, better performance in low-light conditions. This is due to the inclusion of a dual camera configuration consisting of 16 and 8-megapixel cameras where the primary camera utilizes an S5K2P7 sensor, 1.12μm pixels, and a 1/1.28” optical format.
This is also in addition to the 16-megapixel front-facing camera which is said to use the same Sony IMX371 sensor found on the OnePlus 5T, and a UMIDIGI Q1 15-watt wireless charger included with each purchase. In summary, the company argues this will be its most luxury device to date. For those in the market for a new smartphone, the UMIDIGI Z2 Pro is not quite available to buy yet although it’s expected to become available to pre-order soon. In the meantime, the standard UMIDIGI Z2 model is now available through GearBest and priced at $249.99 – $50 under its standard retail price. It’s also expected the UMIDIGI Z 2 will start to be sold through Aliexpress from next week and likely for the same $249.99 price.
