Users of Google’s video calling app Duo will now be able to export their call history in app version 36 and later. That’s not the most exciting change to have hit the app and a far cry from the popular demand that Google integrates all of its messaging and calling solutions into a single platform. It is, however, one that can be endlessly useful for keeping a closer eye on interactions with contacts and saving phone numbers that a user doesn’t necessarily want to add to their contacts application or SIM card. It’s also not brand-new since it was previously possible via ADB for those who knew how to use the debugging tool. After the update, the process is simplified and available from the menus of the app itself.
The majority of Duo users won’t need to install any new software to get access to the new feature either. The change appears to be rolling out on the server side of the service, according to initial reports. The act of exporting Duo’s call history is also very straightforward. Users simply need to navigate to the Duo application and then tap the menu at the top right-hand corner. That’s the three-dot icon, which should expand to show a list of options. After tapping on “Help & feedback,” users will be presented with a list of frequently asked questions. There should be a “More” option visible available as well. Tapping on that, followed by tapping on that page’s three-dot menu will reveal the option to “Export Call History.”
The solution provided by Google could obviously be simplified further. Google has been working with a fair degree of consistency to deliver updates to its dedicated video calling and audio messaging app; among the more recent of those was the ability to make Duo calls to users who don’t have the app installed. That was implemented back in January and there have been a few other changes since then as well. The addition of history exports rounds out those improvements and brings the app in line with most modern apps in its category. With any luck, the company will continue to improve on the feature, making it easier to find and use.
