Vivo Confirms 'Nex' Branding & June 12 Launch Date

Vivo has just confirmed that its upcoming ‘bezel-less’ smartphone will be called the Vivo NEX, and that the phone will launch on June 12. The company announced said event quite recently, but it was unclear whether the phone will be called the Vivo APEX or NEX, well, it seems like rumors and leaks were spot on, as Vivo opted to name the device the Vivo NEX. The company confirmed this info via an official poster which not only confirms the phone’s name, but it also shares a render of the phone, while confirming that it will sport an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The Vivo NEX will be announced during an event in Shanghai, China, and it is quite possible that the company is planning to release more than one variant of the device. The Vivo NEX and NEX S have been rumored thus far, while both device leaked as well. The Vivo NEX is expected to be a high-end, premium smartphone, while the NEX S will probably ship with the Snapdragon 710 64-bit octa-core processor, at least according to a recent benchmark leak. The Snapdragon 710, for those of you who do not know, is Qualcomm’s all-new mid-range chip. Two different designs of the Vivo NEX surfaced, so we’re presuming that the premium NEX phone will resemble the Vivo APEX concept quite a bit, as it will ship with a pop-up selfie camera, in-display fingerprint scanner, 98-percent screen-to-body ratio, and the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor. The device will probably include at least 6GB of RAM on the inside, an OLED display will be a part of the package as well, while that display will probably measure 5.99 inches, in diagonal.

The Vivo NEX S, on the other hand, will ship with a regular front-facing camera which will be included in the bottom-right corner of the phone’s front side, it will have slightly thicker chin below the display, and quite probably slightly less impressive screen-to-body ratio, but still over 95-percent. In addition to the Snapdragon 710, the Vivo NEX S will sport 4GB of RAM, and Android 8.1 Oreo will come pre-installed on the device, with the company’s Funtouch UI, of course. The Vivo NEX S is rumored to cost 5,000 Yuan ($780) in China, which means that the Vivo NEX will be even more expensive than that, though it remains to be seen how accurate that info is.

UPDATE: Chinese teaser image was replaced by a global one provided by Vivo.
