Sirin Labs’ cryptocurrency-focused smartphone called the Finney became available for pre-order last May and according to new information shared by the OEM, the handset is now heading toward a November release when it should hit the shelves at $999. The Sirin Finney will feature a slider form factor and not for the same reasons as the BlackBerry PRIV. The slide-out module rising from the top accommodates a secondary display and this part of the device will be dedicated solely to cryptocurrency management, complete with specialized firmware and a cold storage wallet.
The Safe Screen, as called by the OEM, can accommodate a wide variety of cryptocurrencies and relies on its own firmware providing enhanced security while giving users the ability to check their crypto wallet before making transactions. Additionally, a Token Conversion Service (TCS) implemented into the device will act as an automatic broker designed to exchange Sirin Labs Tokens (SRN) into other forms of currency needed for a specific transaction. Also included will be the OEM’s cyber protection suite including secured VoIP, text, and email communication, Behavioral-based Intrusion Prevention System, a physical security switch for the wallet and more. But despite these on-board security measures and tools, it’s worth noting that the device’s portable nature raises some security concerns, and as such the company’s CMO, Nimrod May, says that the Sirin Finney should be viewed by prospective buyers as a way to carry limited amounts of crypto coins on a day-to-day basis. In other words, the Finney should not be viewed as a permanent safe for all of your cryptocurrency holdings.
As far as other software and hardware details go, the Sirin Finney is expected to run a modified version of Android 8.1 Oreo while being driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM. The unit will boast a generous 6-inch FullHD+ display, and carry an 8-megapixel front-facing camera along with a 12-megapixel rear-facing shooter. The device comes with 128GB of on-board memory and the internals will rely on a 3,000mAh battery. All of these components will be assembled by Foxconn, unlike the OEM’s previous privacy-based Solarin smartphone which was manufactured by Flextronics in Switzerland. Finally, while the device will be accompanied by an MSRP of $999, customers who pre-order the model using Sirin Labs Tokens will benefit from a 10 percent discount, bringing the final price down to $899.
