The hugely popular Fortnite: Battle Royale is coming to Android fairly soon, and Epic Games now updated the Fortnite website with a list of smartphone models that will be officially supported on launch. Given that the iOS version can be run on phones as old as the iPhone 6, it’s not too surprising to see a number of mid-rangers mixed in with the flagship handsets. The common thread here is that all of the phones on the list have 64-bit processors, which means that those still clinging to older phones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 or Motorola Nexus 6 may be left out. It’s worth noting that the bottom of the heading has a listing for “Android Other”, which likely means that phones outside of the supported list will work, provided they meet minimum requirements.
Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are at the top of the list, and they both have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB of RAM, so any phone with that specification, such as most mainstream flagships from 2017, should be good to go. 2016 flagships should be alright, too, since the LG G6 is on the list, and bears a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, found in the first-gen Pixel lineup and representing a slight clock bump from the Snapdragon 820. Recent entries in Huawei’s Mate and P lineups are also on the list. Phones from Samsung and Sony are on the list, and it looks like Razer Phone owners will be able to enjoy the game in the phone’s native 120Hz from launch day. The mid-range is represented chiefly by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 635-packing Moto Z3 Play, and it looks like the weakest phone on the list is the Moto E4 Plus, bearing a MediaTek MT6737 processor and 3GB of RAM. Nokia, meanwhile, is represented only by the Nokia 6, and phones from Xiaomi, OnePlus, and HTC are strangely missing, to name a few.
Fortnite has been causing a huge stir in the mobile gaming world, and for a somewhat good reason; iPhone users have had the game for a few months now, but Android fans have had to resort to Steam Link, and it seems they’ll have to continue doing so for a little while longer. The game is reportedly going to be a timed launch exclusive for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, which is rumored to be coming out in late August. 30 days after that, the game will reportedly be up in the Play Store for all to enjoy.
