The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL handsets keep on popping up in AOSP. These two handsets are expected to arrive in September or October this year, and become Google’s all-new flagship phones, while these listings only further confirm that will actually happen. Google keeps on referencing both devices in AOSP commits, crosshatch mentions popped up, as did blueline mentions.
For those of you who do not know, ‘crosshatch’ and ‘blueline’ are rumored to be codenames for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. It is still not clear which codename belongs to which device, though, so keep that in mind. Google always picks fish names to represent codenames for its devices, and this time is no different, so if fish sizes are anything to go by, blueline is bigger than the two, so by some logic, it may belong to the Pixel 3 XL, though we’re only guessing, of course. There’s no proof for this, but the Nexus 6’s codename was ‘shamu’, and shamu is a huge whale, so… there may be something to it. We did not see all that many leaks when it comes to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL thus far, though some CAD renders did surface a while back.
Now, if leaks that have surfaced thus far are to be believed, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will once again sport different designs, at least as far as their front side is concerned. Both devices will be made out of metal and glass, and the back side of the two phones will look similar to the last-gen Pixel devices, including the glass plate on the top of the back. A fingerprint scanner and a single camera will be located on the back, while a 3.5mm headphone jack will not be a part of the package. Both devices will sport thin bezels, the Google Pixel 3 will not sport a display notch, while the Pixel 3 XL will. The Pixel 3’s bezels will be considerably thinner than the ones on the Pixel 2, and the Pixel 3 will be noticeably smaller than the Pixel 3 XL. It remains to be seen how accurate are the renders that leaked, though, so take all that with a grain of salt.
