HTC is working on a new Android mid-ranger code-named “Imagine Life,” with full specs of the unannounced handset being leaked by Android Authority earlier today. While the official moniker of the handset remains unclear, its provisional identifier suggests the device may end up being advertised as the HTC U12 Life, hence being a follow-up to the U11 Life which the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer launched last fall in several variants, one of which was introduced as part of Google’s Android One program.
The HTC Imagine Life is said to be equipped with a 6-inch screen featuring an FHD+ resolution of 2,160 by 1,080 pixels which amounts to an 18:9, i.e. 2:1 aspect ratio. The image format in question strongly suggests the upcoming handset won’t have a display notch as devices with such screen cutouts generally use the 19:9 aspect ratio. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 is reportedly powering the device together with 4GB of RAM. The HTC Imagine Life is understood to be offering 64GB of flash memory expandable via a microSD card, though it’s presently unclear whether HTC is planning to offer numerous storage configurations. The device is said to be fueled by a 3,600mAh battery which should allow for at least a full day of regular use on a single charge due to the presence of Qualcomm’s energy-efficient silicon.
The back panel of the HTC Imagine Life supposedly features a dual-camera setup entailing a 16-megapixel sensor supported by a 5-megapixel module, whereas its top bezel is expected to accommodate a 13-megapixel camera. 4K recording, phase detection autofocus, and beautification are all said to be part of the package, together with Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dual-SIM capabilities, and a fingerprint reader. The timing of the phone’s launch remains unclear, as does its operating system version of choice. HTC reduced the number of its annual mobile product releases in 2018 in an effort to cut costs after experiencing a massive drop in sales that’s threatening the existence of the company as a whole.
