Mobvoi’s latest smartwatch, the TicWatch Pro is now available to buy. The TicWatch Pro was first announced back in May and builds upon the success of the company’s original TicWatch E and S models. Now, following on from that initial announcement, Mobvoi has today confirmed the TicWatch Pro is immediately available to buy through Amazon and priced at $249.99 in the US, $371.99 in Canada, £219.99 in the UK, and €249.99 in Europe. As part of the launch period, the TicWatch Pro is initially only available to Amazon Prime Members, with the expectation that non-Prime buyers will be able to purchase the smartwatch starting from August 15, 2018.
One of the clear selling points with the TicWatch Pro is the battery life as the company is claiming up to 30 days of usage is available on a single charge. Although, this is somewhat based on the activation of different modes which will impact on the smarts of the device. For example, the TicWatch Pro features both a ‘Smart’ and an ‘Essential’ mode and the names directly relate to the level of functionality. When in Smart mode, the full functionality of the watch — in particular, the full Wear OS experience — is available, and when Essential mode is activated the TicWatch Pro reverts to a more basic type of watch, displaying more fundamental elements, such as “time, date, step counting, and heart rate monitoring.” Which highlights one of the other main selling points of the watch, as the ability to switch between these modes is directly connected to the TicWatch Pro’s other ability to switch between different displays – it technically comes with two displays. The first is the standard OLED display which caters to the full Wear OS experience while the other display is an FTSN display. By utilizing the latter, the TicWatch Pro is able to reduce the processing demand on the watch and by association offer extended levels of battery life. Wearers are able to switch between modes at any time, or set Essential mode to automatically activate when the battery reaches a critical level in Smart mode.
As for the more technical details, the TicWatch Pro features 1.39-inch display along with a 400 x 400 resolution. Inside, the TicWatch Pro comes powered by a combination of 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC. Bluetooth 4.2 is also included, as is a an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water – up to 1.5 meters for a maximum of thirty minutes. The TicWatch Pro also boasts NFC allowing for the watch to be used to make mobile payments through the likes of Google Pay.
