While some Chinese consumers mocked Lenovo’s Z5 smartphone en masse following its announcement this spring, many others saw the Android-powered handset as an attractive option, with the device now hitting “sold-out” status twice in less than a month. Lenovo has been teasing the Z5 with outrageous claims for weeks, prompting some backlash from the general public after eventually unveiling a handset with a mid-range chip in the form of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636. Regardless, the fact that its new mobile lineup starts at the equivalent of $195 made it a sought-after commodity in the Far Eastern country; the initial batch of the Lenovo Z5 sold out in approximately a minute and the new one followed suit, with the phone maker clearing its stock in some 50 seconds earlier this week.
The Indigo Blue variant of the Lenovo Z5 is currently its most popular model, with the same color being offered alongside both memory configuration of the device. The handset can be purchased with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space, whereas $75 extra nets you double the amount of flash memory. The Black model is the only one that’s still in stock as of Sunday and the device was also launched with an Aurora finish which looks reminiscent of the Twilight color Huawei introduced with its P20 series of Android flagships earlier this year as it changes from violet to blue, depending on the angle from which you’re looking at it.
The Lenovo Z5 features a 6.2-inch FHD+ display with a notch and a 19:9 aspect ratio, as well as a dual-camera setup using a 16-megapixel sensor and an 8-megapixel one. Its screen cutout accommodates another 8-megapixel camera, with the handset itself being powered by a 3,300mAh battery. A microSD card slot isn’t part of the package, with the Z5 being primarily aimed at consumers interested in the latest smartphone designs who aren’t willing to pay a premium price for them.
