Samsung is bringing the Stickers functionality from the Calendar app of the Galaxy S9 series to a couple of its older flagships, namely the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, and the Galaxy Note 8. The feature gives users the ability to assign stickers to Samsung Calendar schedule items and was designed as a quality of life improvement meant to make calendar events easier to identify at glance. The update weighing 11.68MB is available for the Samsung Calendar app only via the Galaxy Apps store and bumps the app version to 4.4.02.102.
Following the latest update targeted at the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, the Calendar app offers a variety of stickers which can be added to any calendar event, as long as these events are saved to “My Calendar.” This means that the functionality is not available for events available from external sources like third-party synced accounts. The official changelog also reads that these stickers can be added to any schedule items in the Calendar app but it doesn’t seem like multiple stickers can be shown on a single day while in the “Month” view. Nevertheless, this simple addition arguably makes the calendar easier to read at glance, or at least the functionality adds a bit more color to the UI, especially since the stickers seem to cover a fairly wide selection of themes, ranging from party balloons to musical instruments and food items.
The Samsung Calendar app update can be acquired manually right now, though it should also be installed automatically in the coming days. Keep in mind that the update is not available across the board for all Galaxy smartphones and as yet there’s no official word on whether the Stickers functionality will be brought over to the Calendar app present on other Samsung devices beyond the 2017 flagships. In any case, Samsung appears to continue its tradition of bringing software features from newer to older devices, while on the other hand, owners of older Galaxy smartphones can take advantage of a similar functionality which is already offered by the S Planner application.
