A Samsung Electronics-made device identified by the model number SM-N960F that’s widely believed to be the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 appeared in the online database of smartphone benchmarking tool Geekbench, having first been spotted by tech media from the Netherlands. The handset in question is believed to be the international variant of the Galaxy Note 9, both due to its model number and the fact that it was listed as featuring Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 system-on-chip. The same silicon also powers the international models of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, whereas those sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and offer slightly better battery life and graphical performance but worse CPU processing capabilities. The same should hold true for the Galaxy Note 9 family and the differences between the two chips aren’t likely to be noticeable in everyday use.
The four conservative cores of the Galaxy Note 9 are running at up to 1.79GHz, with Samsung seemingly opting for the same clock frequency as it did with the Galaxy S9 series. The other quad-core cluster of the Exynos 9810 should be capable of reaching up to 2.9GHz. The Geekbench listing also mentions 6GB of RAM, the expected minimum configuration of the upcoming series. While two models with 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage space are also rumored to be on the charts, they are likely to only be officially released in South Korea and China. The Galaxy Note 9 model in question was tested while running Android 8.1 Oreo, presumably Samsung’s own implementation of Google’s operating system that’s said to be called Samsung Experience 9.5.
The Seoul-based tech giant already confirmed the Galaxy Note 9 will be officially announced on August 9, with the main implication of that mid-summer launch event being that the Android flagship will become available for purchase by the end of that same month. The handset will be Samsung‘s final high-end mobile offering for 2018 and pave the way for the introduction of the Galaxy S10 lineup expected to debut in the first quarter of 2019.
