Samsung will implement an in-screen fingerprint reader into the Galaxy S10 series and a number of its other Android smartphones meant to be released in 2019, including the next generation of the Galaxy A lineup, one known industry insider from China said earlier this week, in addition to reiterating recent claims about the incoming Galaxy Note 9 lacking such a biometric solution. While speaking at a recent event in the Far Eastern country, Samsung’s mobile head DJ Koh dismissed the possibility of the Galaxy S10 series using an optical fingerprint reader, having clarified that the device will utilize a different technology to allow for display-based identity verification.
Mr. Koh suggested Samsung has completely given up on optical fingerprint scanners as it wasn’t satisfied with the user experience they provide, stating that the South Korean original equipment manufacturer could have already commercialized that technology two years ago. Those comments are in line with what the executive said at this year’s Mobile World Congress when he asserted Samsung stopped pursuing industry firsts and refocused its attention on delivering highly refined mobile experiences to consumers.
The Seoul-based tech giant is said to have been pursuing in-screen authentication modules for years now, having first attempted implementing them into the Galaxy S8. The Galaxy S10 line that’s said to include three models is also rumored to launch with a 3D camera akin to the one found on Xiaomi’s Mi 8 and Apple’s iPhone X, though Samsung is understood to have found a way to commercialize such a feature without delivering a device with a display notch. The company is consequently expecting the Galaxy S10 series to be a massive hit and sell some 60 million units, as per the same report. Samsung‘s next Android flagship is scheduled to be announced on August 9 in the form of the Galaxy Note 9. The Galaxy S10 family is likely to be introduced at MWC 2019 in Barcelona, Spain, with at least one model being rumored to feature five cameras in total.
