The Japanese smartphone manufacturer Sony has released a new infographic that enumerates the innovative features it has introduced into its mobile devices over the last few years. The infographic did not only include the devices from the company’s Xperia smartphone lineup but it also includes products from its smartwatch lineup. One of the innovative features that the tech firm first introduced into their smartphones that was later adopted by rival device makers is the inclusion of water and dust resistance. The first device to boast an IP57 water and dust resistance certification is the Sony Xperia Z, which was launched back in 2013. The device’s IP57 certification means that the handset can survive being submerged under 1 meter of fresh water for 30 minutes. On the other hand, Sony’s Smartwatch 3, which was released by the device maker in 2014, is the first Android Wear-powered smartwatch with onboard GPS. The tech firm noted that other Android Wear wearables released at that time relied on the GPS sensors of connected devices like smartphones and tablets.
Moreover, Sony is the first device maker to incorporate 4K displays into their smartphones. The first smartphone with a 4K screen, the Xperia Z5 Premium, was unveiled by the tech company back in 2015. The display technology incorporated into Sony’s flagship devices was further improved a couple of years after, with the inclusion of HDR-capable 4K displays in the Xperia XZ Premium. This device was also the first handset to support maximum download speeds of 1Gbps and it also sported a memory-stacked image sensor, which enabled the smartphone to record 720p super slow-motion video with frame rates of up to 960fps.
The tech firm also highlighted the inclusion of the 3D scanning feature into the Xperia XZ1. This functionality, dubbed as 3D Creator, uses the device’s cameras to capture a high-resolution 3D image of an object. This feature was further enhanced in the Xperia XZ2, making it easier for people to use the feature while also improving the details of the captured images. In addition, the Xperia XZ2, which was unveiled by the smartphone manufacturer earlier this year, was also the first device that was capable of recording HDR videos at 4K resolution.
