Spotify’s Android app has been missing a pretty basic feature for quite some time. That is the ability to rearrange your playlist from the Android app. Sure you could do it from its desktop app, but you couldn’t do it from the Android app. Which did seem a bit odd, seeing as you could on the iOS app. However, Spotify mentioned last week that it would be adding the ability in the very near future, and today, the feature is available. It doesn’t appear to have an app update either, so this feature seems to be rolled out via a server-side switch. Which is nice, as people don’t need to wait for an update to hit their device.
To rearrange songs in your playlist, simply hit the overflow menu (the three dots icon) in the upper right-hand corner. Then select “Edit Playlist” and from there you can either delete songs from your playlist or drag and drop to rearrange them. It’s pretty easy, though it would make more sense to be able to long-press the song and then drag it to wherever you want it to be placed, but this method is also pretty simple to do. Of course, with Spotify, long-pressing opens up another menu, so it makes sense as to why Spotify added the extra step to edit playlists here.
Spotify is one of the more popular music streaming apps out there, and it has worked pretty hard to add more features in the past year or so, as it got ready to go public this year. It now has music videos as well as playlists, so it’s a great app for all of your audio needs here. And now having the ability to edit playlists on your Android smartphone, it’s definitely a good option for those looking for a music streaming service. There is a free service, that gives you ad-supported music, but there is also a paid version that allows you to create your own playlists and download music for offline playback, which costs around $9.99 per month.
