U.S. President Donald Trump went on another Twitter tirade aimed at big tech circa 2 AM PST, this time resolving to directly attack Google for “rigged” and “very dangerous” Search results related to the current administration. According to the head of the state, 96-percent of Google Search results for the term “Trump news” lead to left-leaning media outlets critical of his presidency. President Trump accused Google of censoring conservative media by hiding its content from the general public, wondering whether the practice is “illegal” and claiming the matter “will be addressed” as part of the same communication.
The President didn’t elaborate on the matter and it’s presently unclear how he arrived at the aforementioned percentage, though he has an established track record with exaggerating to get his point across. As of early Tuesday morning PST, a Google(.com) Search query for “Trump news” indeed returns some half a dozen articles negative of the current administration, though approximately half of them offer neutral coverage of recent news, whereas most negative ones are clearly labeled as opinion pieces. The President has been attacking the Silicon Valley since before taking office, having previously targeted the likes of Twitter and Amazon due to a variety of issues. What he perceives is overly negative coverage of his presidency has been the subject of several Twitter rants this summer, with Twitter itself being threatened with an investigation into its “illegal” practices, though the President never clarified what he meant by that vow and has yet to follow through on it.
Social media juggernauts are currently also facing pressure from lawmakers over the effectiveness of their efforts to combat foreign misinformation campaigns aimed at polarizing the American public and influencing its democratic elections via their online platforms, with tensions now rising to new heights as the November mid-terms are quickly approaching. To date, U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller filed for indictments of three entities and 25 individuals from Russia, accusing them of participating in a coordinated effort seeking to meddle with the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. Mr. Mueller’s probe is still ongoing and has also been repeatedly criticized by the President who referred to it as a “witch hunt” organized to baselessly strip his administration of legitimacy.
….results on “Trump News” are from National Left-Wing Media, very dangerous. Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!
