A number of promotional materials detailing the S Pen set to be bundled with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 leaked online earlier today, having been shared by German tech outlet WinFuture. The images that can be seen in the gallery below reveal that while the company’s next-generation stylus will offer a number of improvements compared to the one that was accompanying the Galaxy Note 8, its number of supported pressure levels will remain unchanged, still sitting at 4,096. The last time Samsung increased the sensitivity of its mobile stylus was two years back with the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 which supported the same number of pressure levels as the upcoming S Pen.
The new gadget will still stand out with its Bluetooth capabilities, allowing Galaxy Note 9 owners to use it as a remote shutter button or a wireless method for controlling presentations in DeX mode, among other things. Some apps will also be controllable via the S Pen’s Bluetooth functionality, with Samsung’s mobile chief DJ Koh recently suggesting the company is specifically looking to cater to gamers with this feature. The South Korean tech giant will also promote its next Android flagship with a claim that using the S Pen on its 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display panel will be tactically identical to writing on an actual paper, as per the same leak.
A Monday report suggested the color of the screensaver memos users will be able to scribble will correspond to the color of the S Pen users choose, with Samsung supposedly planning to sell all available styluses separately, though one should still be included with the Android flagship. The Galaxy Note 9 will be announced this Thursday, August 9, at Samsung‘s next “Unpacked” event taking place in New York City. The base model of the phablet is expected to ship with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space expandable by up to 2TB via a microSD card slot, or 400GB in practice seeing how higher-capacity consumer-grade cards still aren’t available for purchase. The Galaxy Note 9 is currently rumored for an August 24 global release, starting at approximately $960.
