The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are still supposed to be launching in October, a little over a month from now. But the rumor mill has been put into overdrive for the Pixel 3 XL in the past week or so. It has leaked out several times on Toronto’s public transportation, and now, it appears that some camera samples of the Pixel 3 XL have been posted onto Instagram.
These images come from a photographer located in Moscow (though the images were taken in London, it appears). The user’s bio translates from Russian to say “Now filming on Pixel 3 XL, Galaxy S9 Plus and iPhone X”. So this could be one of the photographers that Google has given the Pixel 3 XL to early, to use and put into their presentation showing off how good the camera really is on the Pixel 3 XL. The pictures posted really show the strengths of the HDR mode on the Pixel 3 XL. There are some images of people, but they don’t appear to be in Portrait Mode, as the background is not blurred. And after how well the Pixel 2 XL did background blurring, you would expect it to be just as good if not better on the Pixel 3 XL.
The Pixel 3 XL is expected to have one of the best cameras on an Android smartphone, and that’s because it has some big shoes to fill after how well the Pixel 2 XL performed last year. Even nearly a year after launch, the Pixel 2 XL is still one of the best smartphone cameras available. The Galaxy Note 9 and Huawei P20 Pro really give it some competition. But this was all done by Google with a single camera, and while it would be interesting to see what Google could do with two cameras, leaks do point to a single camera on the Pixel 3 XL still.
